Patience and faith needed when buying odd-colored yarn for tote bag

Patience snd faith needed when buying odd-colored yarn for tote bag

Making different projects was my goal when joining the Knitting Class at my church. The only thing known by me was  having made knitted scarves, hats, crocheted ponchos, throws, and baby afghans. When my adaptation of a little girl's purse was completed, it whetted my appetite for new and different projects. Patience and faith were needed in getting more of my supplies.

For me, patience and faith weren’t my stronger points. Patience wasn’t the strongest virtue. Keeping the faith of a mustard seed was not any easier. Reading two scripture helped me in this.
For patience, 2 Corinthians 6:4 (KJV) fit, which read:

4 But in all things approving ourselves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses.

For faith, the “mustard seed” wasn’t forgotten Matthew 17:20 (NIV) read:

20 He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith  as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

Remembering scripture cooled my temper

Remembering scripture cooled my temper

Yesterday was a Jonah Day in that being swallowed by a whale was more preferable to the trouble incurred by using electronic gadgets. Everything from my landline kitchen phone, to my Gateway laptop computer, to my Samsung Galaxy S III had limits, just like my temper.

It was a good thing for me remembering James 1:19 which read:
My dear brothers and sisters take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak  and slow to become angry (NIV).

Below were a list of 10 things that really made me angry. Remembering the above scripture and Jonah 1:17 which read: Now the Lord provided  a huge fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights. (NIV)  This helped me survive that day.

10. In spite of removing my Symantech Endpoint Security Software for Microsoft Security Essentials, my computer was still somewhat slow.

Recent rains an answer to prayer but more was needed

Recent rains an answer to prayer but more was needed

For the last few days, everyone was watching the skies, waiting, and praying for rain as the local signs recommended. Well God delivered this afternoon, but it still wasn’t enough to remove the Stage 3 drought or water restrictions.

While the plea for rain bought limited relief, rain for forty days and nights was not needed as Genesis 7:12-14 (KJV) indicated:
  • 12 And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights.
  • 13 In the selfsame day entered Noah, and Shem, and Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and Noah's wife, and the three wives of his sons with them, into the ark;
  • 14 They, and every beast after his kind, and all the cattle after their kind, and every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind, and every fowl after his kind, every bird of every sort.
Because of this afternoon’s rain, reader’s were 100% happy for the limited relief. KFDX reported the biggest threat for Wichita County was hail two inches in diameter. For me, seeing penny, nickel and dime-sized hail was a thrill. KAUZ storm spotters reported that the Wal-Mart in Bowie Texas had their doors blown open from the strong winds and their was water damage inside.

God's blessing through organization offered work to those with special needs

Times were hard enough in this economy. With the sequester that took place in March, and more on the way, people were scrambling to make ends meet. Matthew 19:26 said: With God all things were possible. (NIV) For those with disabilities, this became harder even though the ADA Law and the Equal Opportunity Employer statement existed on the books and on the application, because it didn’t guarantee a job:
  • The ADA Law only guaranteed a handicapped person kept the job they had, not help them get a job they weren’t qualified for.
  • The EOE statement, didn’t guarantee an employer was obligated to hire candidates either.
  • If the condition kept one from performing their duties on the job neither of the above helped at all.

Mother's Day meant more about meaning of scripture and reflection of blessing

Mother's Day meant more about the meaning of scripture and reflection of blessing

Mother’s Day made me reflect  on all the little things my mother did for me in the past week. My mom was the type that gave other things than money. Patience, concern, a sympathetic ear, and a few hugs was what was received by me from her. She didn’t expect anything in return.

Exodus 20:12 said:
“Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.” (NIV)

Flowers, candy and a gift card didn’t cut it. For me, that meant remembering that she took me to Best Buy on Monday allowing me to purchase a Samsung Galaxy SIII. My brother and sister each gave the gift of money last Christmas, begging me to retire the ancient Nokia 6010 used until my getting weary of the second one after the on/off button wouldn‘t work. The first was ruined after being too close to magnetic doors during a trip to Clinic Care in December 2011 for a kidney infection.

Cable theft a violation of federal law and two of the Ten Commandments

Cable theft a violation of federal law and two of the Ten Commandments

The last time my internet and cable access were interrupted on February 12, the line that went from the apartment to the outside was weak. After almost a week of waiting for them to get the appointment times correct service was restored. Somehow, the line outside was cut Monday evening before dark. Even though my cable box worked, there was no cable or internet service because three lights on my modem blinked.

After the technicians arrived, being late because they went to the wrong side of the apartment complex. One of them called twice because they went to the Brentwood side, which had the same apartment number. After checking connections outside, it was discovered that someone in this complex stole my cable service by cutting my line and attaching theirs. This was a violation of the Ten Commandnents in two ways:
  • Stealing cable was a crime, meaning a $25,000 fine and or possible jail time and
  • A violation of two of the Ten Commandments which were:
  1. 15 You shall not steal and
  2. 17 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.” (NIV)

Higher taxi and City Transit costs loomed

Everyone dreaded the announcement that higher rates were coming to the City Transit System and taxi cabs, they may not have stopped me from traveling completely, but they might have slowed me down when the new tablets that were being installed in all Skylark Taxi Cabs. The taxi drivers that took me to church and back home last Saturday had an electronic navigation system. One taxi driver told me, this Monday evening past that  they were allowed to use their own if they had them, but only the tablets were installed.

How To make a Spinach, Mushroom, and Onion Pizza

How-to make a Spinach, Mushroom, and Onion Pizza

Being creative with food was one of my talents. Taking leftovers from my mother’s fridge and creating a meal from it was fun even before the death of my father in March of 1995 from lung cancer. Whether they were God-given remained between God and myself. The church didn’t require my making a baked gift or cookies for Awana every time there was a social event or a fundraiser, but my spiritual gift hadn’t been discovered yet.

spiritual gift was defined as  ‘spiritual’ in nature for they were given by the Holy Spirit to every believer (1 Corinthians 12:7-11). Each gift was a manifestation of the Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:7). Spiritual gifts were‘spiritual’ in that they were given only to those who were believers in Jesus Christ. Also, spiritual gifts differed from human talents and abilities in that they produced ‘spiritual’ fruit.
