The Wichita County Public Health District was altering everyone who had not received a flu shot to get theirs immediately. There had been an increase in emergency room activity for those that had flu-like symptoms in the Wichita Falls area. How one avoided the flu or cared for themselves in surviving its wrath was the key.
Why were so many people getting the flu this year? Unfortunately, that depended on the type of flu strain, which had a lot a lot to do with the great number of people who caught it and suffered from its wrath. Luckily the right strain was isolated. While more people had been exposed to the flu, the Director at United Regional Healthcare Center was hoping that the 112 plus cases wouldn’t be as bad as 2003-2004 in which 48,000 deaths were reported nationwide.
